The History
DATE OF BIRTH: June 27th, 1517
PLACE OF BIRTH: Volos, Greece
CURRENT HOME: Volterra, Italy
IMPORTANT PEOPLE: The Volturi and the Guard
FULL LENGTH HISTORY:
The Adonis family was one of the more wealthy and influential families of Volos, Greece. Everyone knew who they were. The eldest son of an elder Balthasar Adonis was Basil Adonis, a tall, dark haired, muscular man known for his gallant and friendly demeanor and infectious smile. Basil was a decorated war hero and an expert hunter. In the summer of 1514 he met Callia Bedros who was in Volos for the summer. Callia was considered a beautiful, fair haired woman who had class and grace. She was very knowledgeable and talent in the area of the arts. Music and art were two of her passions. For a pair that seemed so different, they were each other’s other half. The two were married in the fall of 1515.
In the fall of 1516 the couple had their first child, a son they named Damon. The boy was fair haired and the spitting image of his mother. Less than a year later he became an older when the couple had their second son in the summer of 1517. This second boy was named Demetri. He was the opposite of his brother as he was the match of his father. The boys were welcomed and adored by all citizens of Volos. As they were raised they were given the best. The best clothes. The best toys. The best food. But their mother taught them humbleness and stressed the characteristic of politeness. She would not have her sons be anything but gentlemen.
When the boys were older, they began their lessons in the areas of battling, hunting and the arts. Damon took little interest in battling and hunting however he did turn his focus to the arts. Demetri, on the other hand, became the perfect combination of both his mother and father. This fact caused Demetri to become the center of his father’s attention. Basil adored Demetri while taking little interest in his eldest son. A boy that would not hunt was no son of his.
The favoritism shown by their father caused tension between the brothers. In their early teen years, the tension between the boys collapsed their relationship. One day when Demetri and Basil returned home from a hunting expedition Damon greeted them and explained to his father that there was a painting Damon wanted to show him. Basil, however, ignored the boy’s wises saying that he and Demetri had to tend to the prizes of their hunting expedition and that it was far more important than his art. Damon, angry and hurt, blamed his brother and refused to talk to him from that day forth. Demetri spent many months trying to gain his brother’s forgiveness but had no luck in the matter. Eventually he gave up. Demetri and Damon no longer considered themselves to be brothers.
As Demetri grew into a young man his skills as a hunter grew as well. He became the best hunter in all of Volos. His tracking skills could not be matched and were whispered about among all the citizens of Volos. It was said that he almost seemed to sense their target’s location even from miles away.. It was as if he could link himself to the animal and that link would allow him to locate it. Demetri, himself, could not explain his ability. He was invited on every hunting trip that was to leave Volos.
One such trip Demetri had wandered from the hunting party. He was on the trail of a Eurasian Lynx. Demetri had followed the trail of the lynx for nearly a mile when he stopped suddenly. He had lost the trail of lynx. Cautiously he peered through the trees with his knife raised. He heard the sound of panting behind him and as he turned the lynx leaped at him. Demetri froze momentarily with fear. The lynx dug his claws into Demetri’s skin and ran its claws down his torso. The struggle was quick as he knifed the lynx and threw it from his body. The hunter collapsed to the ground and was later found by his party who quickly returned him to Volos where his wounds scared.
Demetri became well known throughout Greece. As a part of the Adonis family, he was looked up to by many people of Greece. When Demetri was 23, his family threw a party to celebrate his engagement to the daughter of an important diplomat. It was at this party he met a pale stranger. After a night of drinking, Demetri woke up in a small town in Italy. The stranger from the night before was nowhere to be found, but he did not leave Demetri without a part of himself. The only thing to be found was a note was left telling him to enjoy his gift. As a newborn, Demetri ran wild and fed freely. He was on the verge of exposing the vampire when the Volturi showed up. Intrigued by the newborn’s ability, a more direct version of his tracking ability they called sensory location, the invited Demetri to join the guard. And when he joined he forgot those he was once so close to. He forgot his bride to be. His mother. His father. But never his brother.
Demetri grew darker with time. More sadistic. The influences of the other vampires, especially those of Aro, changed him. He came to like the idea of inflecting pain. But he kept a part of his mother into this new life as a vampire; her politeness and formality. Both of these characteristics fit well into the characteristics of the Volturi. It was this new darkness, however, and suggestion from Aro that Demetri visit his older brother. A visit to once more ask for forgiveness. A visit that ended in blood. When Damon refused to speak to his brother, who he thought to be dead, Demetri’s short temper set him off. He killed Damon and all of those in his house without a second thought. Damon was no longer his family or his brother; he hadn’t been for a long time.
He was a highly valued member of the guard. His ability made him very useful to the Volturi. They used him in locating people of interest and those that were causing problems for The Volturi and their kind. It was Demetri who helped to locate those who would later become members of the guard like the twins. A whirlwind of stories about the twin had reached the Volturi many, many years after Demetri had joined and when Aro became interested he had Demetri locate them. Demetri accompanied Aro several times to watch the children. As he watched them grow, Demetri became incredibly fond of the twins. In a way he adored them even though he had never spoken to them. He believed it was their relationship with each other that drew him to them. It was the kind of relationship he didn’t have with his own sibling. When it would be time for them to join, should Aro choose that, Demetri knew they would be a perfect fit into the family.
Over his time spent with the Volturi, he has left the castle on many occasions. The majority of these trips are business, to take care of problems that threaten their kind. On occasion he has taken trips for pleasure but these trips are rare. His most recent trip from Volterra was to Washington when the Volturi successfully managed to kidnapped the hybrid child Renesmee.
